OUR PEOPLE:
The Palms of Hallandale Beach is nestled in the northwest corridor of the city of Hallandale Beach, Florida. It boast of being the corridor with the most generational families. The Palms community is made of majority African Americans, with some hispanics and other ethnic groups, most of whom have migrated from Georgia and the Carribbean Islands to make a home for themselves. It is a diverse community with older adults, young adults, youth and children.
OUR STRENGTHS:
The Community For All Ages Iniative is combined with the Palms Community Action Coalition, which is a community non-profit made up of various churches, non-profits, civic groups and residents in the area. The team of members and volunteers are engaged in various activites that encourage interaction with people of all age groups. Opportunities to engage youth in programs, community redevelopment, and educational partnerships are available through the local high school, and churches. One of our strongest strength is the diversity of passionate people that are in involved in the community. Those who are willing to come out of their homes and comfort zones, to take a step into creating a better community for us all to live.
OUR CHALLENGES:
As in most communities, we have our share of challenges which we see as opportunity for growth: Create stronger relationships between residents of all ages and the local police department, and with city officials so everyone is heard without feeling misunderstood. Another challenge we face is getting our residents to take more leadership roles and responsibilities in the development of the community.
OUR COMMUNITIES FOR ALL AGES:
Palms Of Hallandale Beach CFAA will focus on the creation of a safe and thriving community. This is done through engaging residents of all ages in the development of the historical Foster Park facility, community and police dialogues to increase the level of safety, increase leadership roles for residents of all ages to support intergenerational interaction.
Since the Palms of Hallandale community is the corridor with the largest generational families, we will work to preserve the history of businesses, families, schools and churches that provided services to the community since its inception. The CFAA team will work with residents of all ages to train them in civic leadership, to encourage them to voice their opinions in an assertive and diplomatic way so that they are heard, and not discarded.
We all believe in the old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child". therefore, it takes building relationships between the young and the older generation to enhace the economic growth of the community for people of all backgrounds to live happily.
