Our Community

Golden Gate is an urban neighborhood within the city of Phoenix with a population of about 30,000 people. Although a large community, there is a strong sense of family that permeates throughout our area. The families that live in Golden Gate support and look out for one another.

Our People:

Phoenix Golden Gate is a mostly Hispanic community made up of long time residents, new immigrants, and people who move in and out quickly. We have more young people than elderly and many people who live below the poverty line.

Our Strengths:

Our main strength as a community is our families.   Other assets include the Golden Gate Community Center as a trusted resource, as well as new, emerging groups of neighborhood residents, business leaders, and others.

Our Challenges:

The challenges we face are:

    • A hostile political climate around immigration issues
    • Safety issues
    • High crime rates

Our Communities for All Ages:

Our Golden Gate Communities for All Ages, now in its 4th year,  continues to strengthen community connections and address issues including caregiver support, health and wellness, neighborhood safety and life long learning. The focus of our work is now on infusing an intergenerational lens to the existing mission, programs and supports at our local community center.
