Our Community

Canyon Corridor is an urban neighborhood in Phoenix, AZ. With a population of about 20,000 people, we are an extremely diverse community with over 27 languages spoken. Many refugees have made Canyon Corridor their home, giving all community members access to many different cultures -- Latino, Burundi, Burmese, Iraqi, Iranian, Vietnamese, Bosnian, Philippine, Chinese, Japanese and many more.

Our People:

Our diverse community has a fair mix of all ages, but we are predominantly young. Our residents are:

  • 20% African American
  • 2% Asian
  • 8% Caucasian
  • 65% Hispanic/Latino
  • 3% Multicultural
  • 2% Native American

Our Strengths:

We have many strengths and assets that include:

  • Diverse cultures
  • Several parks
  • Grand Canyon University
  • Elementary and high schools
  • Local churches
  • Several apartment complexes with large clubhouses for community activities and gatherings
  • Weed & Seed

Our Challenges:

We are in need of revitalization and many of our challenges, such as our lack of retail and financial establishment and the abundance of abandoned/foreclosed homes, result from a lack of community and economic development.

Our Community for All Ages Team : Our Community for all Ages team includes local community development organizations, neighborhood associations, faith based community representatives, city services representatives, refugee services and residents representing different generations and cultures. Together we are working towards our vision of reweaving the fabric of the Canyon Corridor community to become more socially and economically vibrant.
